Heisman Watch
Another week down and another week we seen great performances. Starting with Donnel Pumphrey, senior running back out of San Diego State. Last week Donnel proved that his 298 yard against Cal was no fluke as he rolled up the yards on Northern Illinois to the tune of 220 on 23 carries. For the season Pumphrey has rushed for 599 yds on 73 carries and 7 touchdowns. He is averaging a ridiculous 8.2 yards a carry. Its time to start looking at Pumphrey as a true Heisman contender.
1. Lamar Jackson, QB Louisville
Lamar had yet another spectacular game last week against #2 ranked FSU. Throwing for 216, 1 TD and 1 INT. But he done most of his damage on the ground with 146 rushing yards and 4 TDs.
2. Christian McCaffery, RB Stanford
Had a solid day rushing for 172 against the USC defense. He is averaging 235 all purpose yards a game and has 4 TDs in two games this season. You just get the feeling that somewhere down the line he is going to have to have that magical Heisman moment if hes going to catch Lamar Jackson
3. Donnel Pumphrey, RB San Diego State
Back to back 200 plus games is a great way to start the first half of the season. If he continues this pace he will be sitting front row in New York for the presentation.
4. Patrick Mahomes II, QB Texas Tech
Lamar Jackson gets a lot of hype because of his 18 TDs but guess what that's the same number that Mahomes has. Now if the knock you have on him is they lost, stop it. You put up 55 points your team should win.
5. Greg Ward jr, QB Houston
Sure Ward threw for 326 yards and TD against Cincy, and yes he had a banged up shoulder and took some hard hits. but he also threw a couple INTS one in the end zone that almost cost them the game. If not for the defense back to back pick sixes late. the Bearcats probably win that game.
